IPDG Bansi Dhurandhar

A charismatic, lovable, humble, deeply involved and an efficient Rotarian who lead District 3140 in 2008-09.

Bansi is a Rotarian of over 20 years and is an apple of all the eyes of all Rotarians of Rotary Club of Bombay Airport. Bansi belongs to the Pathare Prabhu community, who are undisputably the original residents of Mumbai city. His Rotary career is as charged as his business life. A Charter member of Rotary Club of Bombay Airport since 1988 and with Rotary in his blood as his father late Sadashiv Dhurandhar was a member of Rotary Club of Bombay West, he rose to great heights not only in his Club but after his Presidency in 1994-95, also in the District and achieved universal acclaim. His innate commitment with utmost inborn simplicity and devotion resulted in his growing graph of popularity and dependence. At the Club level he has received awards and accolades, too many to mention. "Four Avenues of Service Award" by Rotary International for his Club activities is one such priceless award. Under the umbrella of Rotary, the rehab-center that he helped to establish twelve years ago, has been a boon to the special children and hundreds of amputees.

His involvement at the District levelled various Governors to entrust him with important tasks such as A to Z of Rotary, District Assembly, Shukriya function, Rotary Service Week and the Centennial District Conference, Fest-O-Five. The Rotary Foundation, too, has recognised his commitment by endowing him with TRF Foundation District Service Award, three times. No wonder, Rotary International awarded him its highest award the "Service Above Self' for his total dedication.

Shinning in Rotary as a bright star and guiding the travelers on path to service like the North Star, Bansi was a natural choice to lead R I Dist : 3140 in 2008-09

As meticulous, sincere, honest and as compassionate as he has been in Rotary, Bansi has the same attributes in his business life.

Equipped with Diploma in Business management and Master of Science, in Bio-Chemistry from University of Mumbai, Bansi is a Director of MICROTROL a company providing sterilisation services for life saving medical devices and food ingredients. His research in the field of sterilisation for developing countries earned him the prestigious award from the World Intellectual Property Organisation, Geneva. He has shown his diversified excellence in the field of conservation of historical monuments including the caves at Ajanta.

Business and Rotary are not the only fields in which he excels. A keen sportsman, an excellent cricketer, he also is a very talented and gifted artist. Rangoli and oil painting on canvas are his forte. Interested in education, he is on the Board of Directors of Parle Tilak Vidyalaya Association, which manages many prestigious schools, colleges and management institutes.

The list of his involvements in many service areas is too voluminous to itemize. He is a true Rotarian in his service activities and has been too often lauded and recognised for his keen interest and personal participation.

A multiple Paul Harris Fellow, he has a perfect match in his wife Dr. Surekha, who is a pediatrician and an equally devoted social worker. Polio eradication is her passion. Surekha is a Past President of Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Airport and stands tall amongst the Airport family. The couple is blessed with two sons. Nishad has recently returned from USA after seven years to join Bansi in his business, while Paraj is pursuing his MBA. Both Nishad and Paraj have been lYE students.
