DGN Vijay Jalan

Vijay Jalan, a leader by example, hails from a family of Entrepreneurs in Textiles. Though his father was a textile mill owner; Vijay on the completion of his Post-Graduation in Business Administration, ventured in the Business of Ready Made Garment Exports and then, over 26 years, built one of Mumbai's most respected Logistic Management Company in Freight forwarding, shipping, transport and warehousing - INTERCARGO.

Vijay is a born leader; while pursuing his Bachelor's Degree from Bombay University he was elected as General Secretary of his College Student's Union and in the following year was nominated as Chairman of the then newly formed College Student-Teacher Council ultimately representing his College as its Member in the prestigious Student's Council of the University of Bombay.

Vijay is a master of Management skills. He became the youngest President of Bombay Management Association [BMA] and rose to become the Western Reg.Chair of All India Management Association.

Vijay was initiated into ROTARY as a Member of the Rotary Club of Bombay North in 1984. He soon became active in the District much before becoming the President of the Club in 1994-95, a year in which his Club received the "Distinguished Club" and "Outstanding Service" Awards.

Vijay has served District 3140 for near two decades in various capacities in all avenues of service. He was Convener of the still fondly remembered Multi-District ROTARACT Conference held in 1991; he is an integral part of several ICFs, year after year, as Faculty, Convener and Forum Leader. He was also Governors Special Aide, Avenue Chairman, District Secretary and Assistant Governor twice over.

Vijay received the Exemplary Service Award 1999-2000, Rotary Foundation Services Award 1999-2000 & in 2002-'03, as well as the Distinguished Service Award in 2000.

Vijay is a 7 times Paul Harris Fellow with his whole family - the Jalans are committed to TRF.

Vijay is currently the Vice-President of the Indo-Belgium Luxemburg Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Chairman of the Conceptual Forum of the Bombay Management Association. Founder Trustee of a School run for Adivasis in a remote rural area, Vijay is also a major donor for an old age home in Nerul.

Spouse Kiran is President of Archana Trust Suburban, an effective women's NGO. Vijays' two charming children, daughter Vrinda a PG in Commerce is presently studying at York University Canada for her MBA and son Siddharth, an active Rotaractor, is pursuing a BE Degree in IT.
