District Governor Vijay Jalan
A man who believed in the true word of being an entrepreneur, Vijay ventured out on his own into the exports’ business. Subsequently he started Intercargo, which he nurtured with a vibrant and dynamic zeal to make it one of Mumbai’s respected logistic management outfits, having interest in freight forwarding, shipping, transport and warehousing.
A leader by example, his drive was visible early on when he was elected General Secretary of his college student union and ultimately represented his college in the University’s Student Council. Being the youngest President of the Bombay Management Association and rising to be the Western Regional Chairman of the All India Management Association are a testimony of his vision and passion to lead.
Vijay’s active interest at the district began long before be took on the mantle of President of RC Bombay North in 1994-95, wherein his term was one of distinction with the Club receiving the Distinguished Club and Outstanding Service awards. Vijay served District 3140 in various capacities across the spectrum of Rotary service. He is still remembered for convening the Multidistrict Rotaract conference in 1989. He has been an integral part in several ICF’s year after year, as faculty, convener and forum leader. Governor’s special aide, District Secretary (2002-03) Avenue Chair and twice over Assistant Governor are some of the assignments with which he has had the opportunity to serve District 3140. A major donor to The Rotary Foundation, Vijay has received the Exemplary Services Award (‘99-‘00), Rotary Foundation Services Award (’99-’00, ’02-’03) and Distinguished Service Award (2000). He is also a member of the Paul Harris Society and his commitment extends to his family members too, who are Paul Harris Fellows.
A past president of the Indo Belgium Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Vijay’s involvement at the community level include being founder trustee of a school for Adivasis in a rural area and a major donor to an Old age home in Nerul. Spouse Kiran, an MA in Philosophy, is past President and Trustee of Archana Trust Suburban, an effective women’s NGO. Their daughter Vrinda, an MBA from York University, is working with a pharmaceutical multinational while son Siddharth, an I.T. Engineer, work with a multinational advertising agency.
